Places to Eat: Bowls

BOWLS, guys.

Imagine being able to eat whatever you choose at a restaurant!

I've found that any restaurant that has bowls is my friend, because most bowls are easy to customize and leave things out. Here are a few of my favorites (none are sponsors; I just love them!)

Aubergine Kitchen

This one is my top favorite! It has a number of bowls you can customize, but my favorite is the "create your own bowl" option.

Because my body can't handle lettuce or kale right now, I leave that out and just use the quinoa or turmeric rice as a base. I usually have quinoa, roasted sweet potatoes (delicious!), carrots, quinoa, salmon or tri-tip steak, microgreens, cucumber, and avocado. Sometimes I risk their Thai coconut sauce if I'm feeling daring. So good!

They also have a lovely camomile ginger drink and a hibiscus raspberry tea (my personal favorite!)

Guru's Cafe

This is a great one to eat at when you're with other people who want to eat a wide variety of things. One family member can have pizza, one can have a breakfast burrito, one can have a sandwich, and you can have a bowl!

My favorite is the Spicy Szechwan Pasta or Rice Bowl. I usually have this one with chicken, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, and sesame seeds. I leave off the sauce and broccoli, and I'm good to go (I know lots of people are fine with broccoli, but my tummy rebels). They even have gluten-free rice noodles!

Vitality Bowls

This one is quite delightful, and is a great place to go with other people who like superfoods. Their service is very fast. I usually eat here whenever I'm in Salt Lake City.

My favorite is the Supergreen Goddess Salad. It has chicken, egg, avocado, radish, cucumber, green goddess dressing (I leave this off), feta cheese (I also leave this off), mint, and superseed crunch. I usually ask for extra avocado and sometimes add steak. Avocado is a good substitute for lack of dressing (I know it's not super low FODMAP, but my body does fine with a moderate amount).

Planning Ahead

Another thing I love about these three restaurants is that their menus are all available online so you can plan your meal before you arrive. Planning ahead has definitely become my superpower!

Even if none of these restaurants are near where you live, you can search for restaurants near you with customizable bowls or rice noodle dishes.

Eating out can definitely be hard when you only have a small list of approved foods. The trick is to plan ahead and find a place with menu options you can customize.

You've got this! Enjoy!
